
Apps useful during road trip through Australia
Australia is modern country which has a lot of facilities useful for tourists: free picnic and barbecue places, comfy rest stops on the highway, public toilets and even free campings. Many national park have their own apps with maps of tourists paths and informations about local fauna and flora. We advise you sightseeing Australia with your smartphone in hand! 😃
Below we present few of the apps that were useful during our 5 week road trip.
WikiCamps
App was great source of information and we used it basically every day. Camping with kangaroos, directly on the beach, with jacuzzi or hot springs next to volcano ? Such gems we found thanks to WikiCamps! App costs 6 EUR (free trial version last for 14 days), we think it's totally worth the money.
You will find there:
- campings (free and paid).
_Paid ones have information about price, facilities (washing machine, kitchen), and even cell network coverage.
_Suggestion: before choosing camping read comments in app, check photos - they are really help to find most suitable accommodation. - hostels and youth hostels
- points of interest ( good viewpoints, wineries and even places to get free apples)
- barbecue places and rests stops
- weather forecast for place where we want to go (amazing feature)
- toilets and chemical toilets dumps
- showers
Fuel Map
Free app from the same publisher as Wiki Camps. Priceless if you are going to Outback, but even when just driving along the coast distances between gas stations can be big.

- info about additional facilities like ATM, toilet, shower, etc.
Wild about Whales
App helping seeing whales, published by national parks of New South Wales. It gives information about best places to see whales, where they were seen last time, you will learn how to tell one species from another, and you will find tons of other informations about this giants.
Penguin Parade Phillip Island
If you are going to Phillip Island to see smallest penguins of the worlds, you should install this app. It gives you a lot of knowledge about this cute animals, and also points where it's best to be during their "parade".
NPWS Self guided tours
Title explains everything 😃. If you are going outside of the city in NSW, this app can be really useful.
