Stockholm - cheap flight to expensive place.

Tuesday March 19 was not an easy day for us. After spending the night on the bus from Berlin, we were terribly tired and we got in rush to the house where we started to prepare the for three days in the capital of Sweden. Tickets were bought by Karolcia really cheap - for 15 zł per person one way - 60 zł for the two of us there and back. Hours spent by her on networks with information about promotions have paid. Weather was bad in Poland, eventually it was winter and we started to have doubts, whether it's a good idea to go at this point to place even colder. But hey! -at the end we didn't flew plane recently 😃.

Our plane was delayed an hour, so we didn't managed to get to direct bus to Stockholm - we landed at about one hundred kilometers away Skavsta airport. Instead of waiting next two hours, we were recommended to catch a local bus that carried us to the appropriate train. On site we purchased special day pass for tourists, which we had to show every time we use public transport. After dropping off things at our host we went on an evening tour to the city center. On the Nybroplanopen in new window we stumbled upon an interesting building the Royal Dramatic Theatreopen in new window, while walking down the street we could enjoy the beautiful night view of the city.

A very interesting fact about Stockholm is that virtually every subway station was commissioned to finish by the artists, so even they can be admired. The following photos are from the station Kungsträdgårdenopen in new window and T-Centralenopen in new window.

Then we drove to a lookout point in the mall Slussen, which offers a panoramic view of the city center. Then we went to the east side of the old townopen in new window. On the northern corner of the island stands the Royal Palaceopen in new window. Around it just played out the tournament of ski sprint, in which participated and won our compatriot Justyna Kowalczykopen in new window. As we are not interested in this sport, we figured it in the evening with our host. Returning to the tour, our eyes fell on standing right next the statue of King Gustav III of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century.

Another important point was the parliamentopen in new window building standing on a link of Gamla Stan with the central part of Stockholm. Nearby is situated about 200 meters the Royal Swedish Operaopen in new window, followed by the very interesting church of St. Jamesopen in new window. Near the station T-Centralen we noticed another building with interesting architecture, but unfortunately we were unable to find anything about it.

In the meantime, we went for a meal. Finding something at a reasonable price for us was a big trouble. In town for a slice of pizza and Coke they want 80 kroner, or about 40 zł, and the cheapest place that suited both of us turned out to be known to all "restaurant with the golden arches"😉. After consumption we went back to the old town. At the begining to see Riddarholmen church, located on the island of the same name, it is a place of burial of rulers of Sweden. On the other side of the canal you will see the buildings that surround the very center of the old town.

Stockholm after our short but great trip turns out to be a city with many beautiful views, magnificent monuments and interesting museums. Day and a half we spent there was not enough to see everything, also the March weather is not very nice in the region - in short, it terribly cold. Useful information - it is much more expensive than in Poland, sometimes even twice. Virtually everywhere you can pay by credit card. Churches closed on weekdays are about 16, at least in the winter. Public transport ticket for visitors you can buy in tourist information - it exists in two forms, expensive entitles you to admission to some the museum for free. It was interesting to us that alcohol can only be purchased in a network of shops which were open on weekdays till 19, and on weekends supposedly to 15. Although I would not recommend their beers - I tried - are very poor.
